Join Pete & Takutai on their classic launch Tutanekai on an all day Eco-tour to the outer reaches of the Sounds. Look for dolphins, seas, birdlife and little Blue Penquins before
watching the frenzied feeding of the Blue Cod in the Marine reserve at Resolution Bay, have a picnic lunch in the stunningly beautiful Ship Cove, the bay that Captain Cook refered to as his most favourite anchorage in the south seas.
Unspoilt nature, calm, deep torquoise coloured water, a golden sand swimming beach and a stream the old people call "Sweet Water Creek".
Very few people, no houses, no roads, no telephone poles, no pine trees, just the way that nature intended it to be.
Hear the untold stories handed down from Maori who lived here and traded with Cook and his men, while Pete relays to you the uncut version of the history of Captain Cook !
Next Stop Motuara island Bird Sanctuary, home to some of NZ's most endangered species, Saddle backs, South Island Robins, Kakariki, ( nz parrot, ) Kereru, ( wood pigeon, ) and Korimako ( the little birds with the beautiful song the Bell birds ) and view the little blue penquins in their nesting boxes, smallest in the world.
Let Takutai guide you, she has an affinity with the munu, ( birds ) and the ngahere ( bush ) with her amazing eyesight and instinctive knowledge of the pecking order of different species, identifying unseen birds by their distinctive calls.
On the way home if you are interested Pete will give you an overview of the effects that European colonization had on the Maori culture and the state of race relations in NZ, along with lots of other interesting stories, this is a very educational experience, that will leave you with lasting memories.
